Bioinformatician
Informed Genomics Ltd (IGL), is a privately held, UKAS-accredited laboratory, that aims to provide accessible genomic testing with the mission of enabling earlier diagnosis, personalised treatments, and improved patient outcomes.
The Bioinformatician (Clinical) will contribute to the company’s goal of delivering a robust, scalable LIMS integrated bioinformatics platform. Working with internal stakeholders, the bioinformatician will build, test and deploy tools and pipelines to support Clinical Scientists as well as evaluate market disrupting sequencing platforms and technology.
Key responsibilities:
Build and deploy bioinformatic tools and workflows to meet the requirements of the organisation.
Explore novel bioinformatic approaches to improve sensitivity and specificity of NGS based assays.
Support the validation and verification of bioinformatics tools for clinical service.
Support the development of secure API calls for LIMS integration.
Maintain accurate records of customer projects and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Support data management processes and ensure adherence to data protection policies.
Support operational and system administration support of cloud infrastructure.
Support code deployment processes and produce documentation, including writing standard operating procedures, to adhere to ISO15189:2012
Complete and submit in a timely manner all requested reports, analyses, presentations, and other requested information.
Support cost monitoring of bioinformatic processes.
Support Quality Management functions (e.g. CAPA, internal audits).
Attend conferences, meetings, and industry events.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of Bioinformatics and appropriate to the role.
Job Qualifications:
Degree in Computer Science or a Health Informatics discipline (first or second class with Honours) OR relevant Biological Science with demonstrable abilities in computing.
Desirable to have an MSc or PhD in bioinformatics or equivalent.
Desirable to have experience in a healthcare setting delivering clinical bioinformatics to ISO15189:2012
Familiarity with workflow languages such as WDL, NextFlow, CWL or Snakemake.
Experience with Python, package management, and containerisation.
Desirable to have experience of R and statistical analysis of large biological data sets.
Desirable to have experience with DNAnexus Titan cloud platform.
Desirable to have experience with cloud administration (e.g. Azure, AWS) and key concepts and best practices utilised therein.
Experience with version control (e.g. Git, SVN).
Familiarity with software development processes and workflows (e.g., continuous integration/continuous delivery, KanBan).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Possess excellent communication and team-working skills
Ability to meet tight deadlines, have resilience and the ability to work with a considerable degree of autonomy (following completion of appropriate training and competencies).
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required.
