Clinical Laboratory Director

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, and efficiency in our genomics testing processes. Leading the direction, development and management of all areas of the service including clinical responsibility, strategic direction, and staff management. Acting in a consultant capacity providing clinical liaison and a high level of scientific knowledge, skill, and expertise, you will lead the development and continual improvement of clinical service, including the maintenance of the current ISO 15189 accreditation and extension for new clinical services implemented.

Key responsibilities:

Implement and maintain rigorous quality control measures to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of genomic testing results. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence

Stay abreast of relevant regulatory requirements, ensuring that the laboratory fully complies with regulations. Take the lead in obtaining and maintaining relevant accreditations

Evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to ensure that the service is at the forefront of innovation to enhance laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and scalability

In conjunction with the CEO and Director of Laboratory Operations, be responsible for the overall strategic development and resource management of all genetic laboratory services

In conjunction with the commercial team, support the development of business opportunities

Be qualified (e.g., through maintained HCPC registration) and competent for the oversight of all clinical services

Actively involved in the diagnosis of (and pre-disposition to) genetic disorders and disease, thereby contributing significantly to the service delivery.

Responsible for the authorisation and issue of clinical reports

Liaise with and provide accurate clinical information and advice to service users, including clinical guidance and scientific advice on the selection, performance and interpretation of genetic tests as well as complementary approaches

Ensure new clinical services are introduced as appropriate in liaison with service users, and other professionals and in line with local and national policy

Increase the development of clinical services by strengthening links with NHS and private sector healthcare providers

Ensure the laboratory adheres to ISO 15189:2022 standards and maintains accreditation

Person Specification:

You will need to have significant experience in clinical laboratory management, including authorisation of complex clinical genetic reports, along with working knowledge of ISO 15189 standards and UKAS accreditation processes to lead on these for us.

You will be a Registered Clinical Healthcare Professional (e.g., HCPC, GMC) within the field of genomics, able to bring leadership qualities to motivate employees and help strategically drive the company’s services forward.
